Buy Me a Shamrock

Mmm okay, I HATE selling things "for the cause." Even if its for a good cause, I just hate trying to get people to be generous. So lately we've had to sell these stupid green shamrocks for a dollar. Buy a shamrock and you get 20% off your ticket, and all proceeds go to the Muscular Distrophy Society ((I just hacked that word)). Sure its an awesome deal, but still people say no.. I don't get that! Um, twenty percent is how much employees get off, and off a big ticket thats a pretty damn good deal! But hey whatever, don't get it, I really could care less.
But still, the fact that I have to try and push these on people is bad enough, however just the other day we were informed that if the managers ask any of our tables if we offered them a shamrock, and they say no we get written up. THAT is bullshit. We're supposed to sell a certain number so we can have a pizza party, but I don't care if we have one or not. Now a night out at the bar- I'd be selling those bastards left and right! Pizza though? We're not fucking ten years old anymore ya know! I'm probably just overreacting as usual, but I've had to do this at like every job I've ever worked, and I'm really getting tired of it. If people want to donate monies for a cause, they'll just do it on their own time. I really think we should just stop bothering people. I know I don't want to be bothered!!!

  1. I feel your pain on the crap that employers feel they need to push on their staff. Most of the experiences I've had in any type of employment has been a hack of some sort of micromanagement. You would think after years of successful businesses telling the world that micromanaging is the worst type of management that exists that the rest of the world and it's managers would get the hint.

Penalizing you for not being able to sell an shamrock is lame. Most people who donate to charitable organizations have the groups they trust and don't want to be pushed to donate to a group that they might not know or trust. It's a good idea to have the possibility to donate available but to force you to sell and penalized you if you don't is unacceptable.

    That's my two cents.
